Rediscovering Wholefoods with "realgoodfood" The Co-op has just introduced a unique product range called "realgoodfood". This brand was founded by Serena Dougall and was inspired by her reading Culinaria Könemann's book Organic & Wholefoods, a German publication that presents delicious recipes, ingredients and information surrounding the culture of organic farming. Serena points out that, for most of us, the closest we come to eating wholegrain food is via a diet of refined, polished grains and processed pasta. Most of us are trying to get by on limited nutrients that simply don't provide us with the proteins, essential fatty acids, B-complex vitamins and highly valuable oils that are found in wholefoods. So, with the idea of returning organic wholefoods to our diet in an enticing way, realgoodfood began. The aim was to offer the consumer clean, whole food with taste. Serena did not want the food to be labelled "health" food, "low-fat" food or "diet" food but "wholefood for lovers of fine organic food". The company produces an impressive array of organic products, providing plenty of choice. The range includes gluten-free muesli, toasted cereal, oat porridge, rice porridge, lemon polenta porridge and toasted cereal topping. There are also some very tasty nibblies like toasted seed mix in shoyu, organic street mix and choc street mix and organic tamari-roasted almonds. Plus, there are choc hazelnut and orange almond cake mixes in the range. Serena has expanded the business to include gluten-free wholegrain baby cereals and baby Bircher muesli. "Wholegrain food is a perfectly balanced food for growing bodies and together with fresh vegetables, fruits, animal protein, seeds and nuts they are helping to form the building blocks of a baby's entire life," she says. The babyfood products include biodynamic wholegrain creamy rice cereal, pure baby oat cereal, baby Bircher muesli, and rice and banana cereal. The realgoodfood range is attractively packaged in sealed bottles, with cellophane-pack refills available so that you can keep recycling the containers. All in all, Serena Dougall has produced a range that achieves
her aim of "returning wholefoods to our diet in an enticing and accessible
way". |
