Natural Skin Care with Tjuringa Emu Oil Skin Products
As part of our policy of supporting local industry as well as providing
beneficial products, the Coop recently introduced the Tjuringa Natural
Emu Oil Skin Care range.
Co-op member and company founder Peter Thompson operates an emu farm
at Reesville Road, Maleny, where he has developed his unique products.
Visiting the farm is an educational experience in itself.
Peter has been involved with the emu industry since it started in Chinchilla
in 1993. In fact, Queensland is the only state that has the Aboriginal
founders of the industry still farming the birds, and one of Peter's
main objectives is to keep the indigenous community in Cherbourg involved.
More on the history of the industry and Aboriginal involvement can be
found at the website
http://www.tjuringa.com.au.
The key element in Peter's Tjuringa product range is emu oil. The Australian
Aborigines have long used emu oil as a natural, non-toxic, anti-inflammatory
remedy to relieve pain and stiffness in sore muscles and joints, sunburn
and minor skin irritations. It is a rich source of vitamins and minerals,
long-chain fatty acids (including the important omega 3 and 6), anti-oxidants
and other healing ingredients. The 100%-pure emu oil used in these products
is obtained from Australian Government–licensed farms, not from
wild birds.
Apart from being beneficial in its own right, emu oil has excellent
penetrating properties and thus is a very effective carrier for essential
oils. Therefore, it was a natural and logical development for Peter
to combine emu oil with pure, organic essential oils in the Tjuringa
skin care range. The essential
oils contain their own natural preservatives, so these products have
no need for synthetic preservatives. They also contain no petrochemical-derived
oils.
To complement the emu oil, Peter has chosen natural vegetable oils such
as olive, soybean, sunflower and almond, which are readily absorbable
and also contain beneficial fatty acids and vitamins helpful in maintaining
healthy skin. As well as assisting with the repair of damaged skin,
they have a range of properties, including soothing, freshening, astringent,
analgesic, antiviral, antiseptic and/or insect-repelling.
Apart from the pure Emu Oil (100 mL for $24.95), the Co-op stocks other
products from the Tjuringa range:
• The Moisturiser gives the skin a radiant glow and protects it
throughout the day. It contains 46% emu oil, aloe vera, beeswax and
lavender essential oil.
• The Night Cream is a luxurious cream that replenishes lost moisture
while maintaining skin balance and vitality. It contains 24% emu oil,

with unhealthy or dry skin. It contains 28% emu oil, soybean oil, beeswax

.

Peter says that his uniquely Australian products provide an all-natural
alternative to mineral oil–based products.
Considering the quality of these products, they are modestly priced;
of course, members receive 5% discount. Several gift box selections
of Tjuringa products are also available; just ask at the Co-op.
