More Organics!
Members will be aware that one of the principal policies of Maple Street
Co-op is to stock organic products wherever possible, and to this end
we have recently expanded our range of organics.
In the past few months, the Co-op has been able to obtain organic cashews
(raw and roasted, salted and unsalted), brazil nuts, quinoa (grain and
flakes), pepitas, amaranth (grain and flakes) and sun-dried tomatoes.
We have also just introduced Coronilla spaghetti. Made from rice and
quinoa, it is gluten-free and certified organic.
In addition, we have added to our already comprehensive range of organic
chocolate by introducing a small range from Cocoa Farm. The unique feature
of Cocoa Farm is that the cocoa is grown on the only cocoa plantation
in Australia, located in northern Queensland. Cocoa Farm strives to
obtain the best ingredients and blend them gently to retain all the
goodness. Cocoa Farm’s owners see themselves primarily as farmers
and not manufacturers.
The 100 g organic dark and milk chocolate blocks retail for $4.95 (members
receive 5% discount). The staff can attest to the flavour!
After taking note of member feedback, we have also introduced organic
broccoli seeds for sprouting. This nutritious sprout is rich in vitamins,
enzymes and chlorophyll and is believed to stimulate the immune system.
It can be sprouted in a jar or dome sprouter. The seed is prepared by
washing and then soaking for 4–8 hours in cold water.
Isabel Shipard’s book How Can I Grow and Use Sprouts as a
Living Food? provides detailed information on this subject. The
25 g pack of seeds retails for $7.40 and Isabel’s book is priced
at $34.95 (members receive 5% discount).
