| From the editor From "Maple Street Co-op News", Oct/Nov 2004 It's been full-on for your editor of late, caught up in the usual cycle of deadlines as well as some occasional partying and a mind-expanding three-day conference with (day job) NEXUS Magazine. Thus the slight delay in getting this issue out. Sorry! Since our last reports, Maleny has been dealt a savage blow by the state's Planning and Environment Court with its decision in favour of Cornerstone (see Lori Sturtz's feature story). Residents turned out in force recently to protest the decision and show they're not going to give up without a fight. I can't help thinking that what we need now is a miracle! In these environmentally testing times, we can at least support our Sunshine Coast Environment Council which is holding its annual awards evening on 13 November. Various categories are covered, including one for Environmental Journalism (for which your editor has been nominated!). And we can congratulate Maleny's IGA and residents for reducing plastic bag use – a huge achievement for our town. Hope you get some inspiration from what's on offer this issue. Ruth |
