Hi folks,
What a breath of fresh air to run a cover story on something positive
happening in our community in this issue. The bunya festival's role
in the cultural and spiritual heritage of our region, and it's continued
importance, should not go unacknowledged.
We're also happy to herald the return of Barung Landcare's Wood Expo
after last year's break. The Expo promotes this region's economic and
environmental opportunities for farm forestry, alternate land-uses and
eco-lifestyles. We wish the Expo every success.
Now for a bit of fun: visit www.getup.org.au and click on 'Australia's
Climate Biscuit Budget'. John Howard's 2007 budget is depicted as biscuits
piled on plates; one bikkie equals $100 million. Howard allocated 16
biscuits for automotive industry subsidies and just one biscuit for
public transport, but you get the chance to dish out your own bikkies
for the 2008 budget, giving as many to energy efficiency, solar energy
and wind power as you like, and email it to the government as a petition.
Give it a go - it's almost as satisfying as eating a packet of choclate
biscuits...without all the sugar!
