Anxious residents are playing the waiting game to see if and when construction
will commence on the Cornerstone/Woolworths site, but many are now pinning
their hopes on the Indigenous Land Corporation agreeing to fund the
purchase of the site as per the Mairwarr Indigenous Environmental Group's
recent application (see cover story, Environment News).
We're also waiting to know whether the Office of Urban Management has
taken on board the concerns for our region that many of us -- including
Maple Street Co-op -- raised in our submissions on the Draft SEQ Regional
Plan. We won't know the outcome till mid-2005; the same goes with the
Infrastructure Plan and Program. Unfortunately there's no further "community
consultation" process before the Regional Plan is set in stone.
And while there'll be annual monitoring and review of its implementation
in view of demographic,
housing and economic changes, the next formal review period won't be
for over five years.
While we're waiting we have plenty to do, from local weeding to legal
workshopping. But if you need a recharge before things hot up again,
why not attend a free Yoga Camp on 15–17 April? Contact Leeann
Horrill on 5494 4794 for details.
Following her article last issue, Susanna Molinaro advises that the
Australian Institute of CranioSacral Therapy has more CST info on its
website, www.cranio.com.au. It also has important coverage on vaccination
dangers for babies and children.
Until next time, stay alert!
