Co-op News From "Maple Street Co-op News", Aug/Sep 2006
Division One Councillor Dick Newman reported in the Range News of 6 July that Caloundra City Council has received Maple Street Co-op's application to expand the Co-op building. He said the plan shows an additional 169 sq. metres of store plus a 38 square-metre deck, which will double the size of the existing building. It includes provision of 11 parking bays at the rear of the shop. The drawings reveal that the architecture will be very sympathetic to the existing building, he added. The Co-op's proposal has Councillor Newman's support. "The existing Co-op business has certainly grown at a steady rate over the last decade or so and it's great to see this expansion. Steady growth is a strong indicator of economic sustainability, and the Co-op is also meeting an obvious need in our community. The design looks great, so I see this as a very positive development for our town." Cr Newman advised that the plans would undergo a professional assessment and that final approval would be granted by the delegated authority. "I will be strongly supporting an approval with any fair and reasonable conditions set by Council planners," he noted. – RP |
