Profiles and Promotions
by Alan Harrington, Co-op Manager

We have had another hectic few months, with the Co-op getting busier and busier, and I can assure members
that we'll have another successful year. May was a record month for sales.

I would like to compliment Barung Landcare on a brilliantly organised Maleny Wood Expo, including the
wonderful 10th Anniversary Dinner (at which the Co-op was represented by newsletter editor Ruth Parnell,
Secretary Mary Meadows and yours truly). It certainly shows you how a well-planned and promoted event
not only benefits the organisation but our environment and artisans as well. The Wood Expo raises the whole
profile of Maleny – a bit different from the effect that a Woolworths would have on our town!

There have been a couple of staff changes recently. Our much-loved sophisticate Pamela Harrison has transferred
from her weekend spots to Monday afternoon and has also made herself available for back-up in an
emergency. Our new member of staff is the effervescent Sequoia River; I urge members to introduce themselves
to her if she doesn't do so first.

At last the Co-op has purchased a brand new coffee-grinder to replace the one that has been around since the
Portuguese conquered Brazil. Your Fairtrade coffee beans can now be ground to espresso, filter, espresso pot,
percolator or plunger specifications! Many thanks to Karen Barrett of Montville Coffee for her generous
assistance.

In late April we ran a promotion with Energy Health & Living, which supplies us with the Envirocare range.
This "front of shop" promotion went very well in drawing attention to these environmentally friendly products.
Thanks to our own dynamic and flamboyant Cheryl Reed along with EH & L owner Averyll Fitzgerald,
assisted by Laurel Igoe-Josephs, for the time they spent on this.

The redevelopment is still developing; more about this in the next newsletter.

As announced last edition, we're celebrating our 25th Birthday with an event at the Maleny Community
Centre on Saturday 15 October. It will be an entertaining evening with music, dinner and refreshments, and
no doubt with some time allocated for those who want to reminisce on the Co-op's history and their part in it.
Stay tuned for details.

I wish all members a successful new financial year!
