Directors’ Strategic Planning Workshop

Sunday is usually a day of rest – unless you’re a Maple Street Co-op Director. Our Strategic Planning Workshop was held on 19 March at Marc Kalifa’s house, with Director Peter Pamment setting the agenda. The business of the day was conducted inside the Kalifa’s lovely home, with breaks on the balcony overlooking a magnificent body of water behind the house.

The working day started at 9am with a check-in by everybody as to their state of mind on the day (members will be pleased to know that everyone’s mindsseemed quite balanced!). We started with the review of the Co-op’s Ends Policy and Mission Statement. The only change required was a slight change in the Mission Statement to incorporate the Club’s activities. The Board as individuals expressed their goals, and a plan is in the process of being drawn up for the vision for the next five years. Caloundra City Council has finally approved plans for the extension, so the shop renovations will be happening very soon.

The Board currently consists of six members: Kamala Alister, Kellie Campbell, Douglas Gillies, Marc Kalifa, Peter Pamment and Tony Woodhouse. Margo Balfour came as a visitor and along with all of those present had considerable input into the planning/dreaming process. Not all of the wish list will happen, but the thought processes will be refined and members will be kept abreast of any changes.

A Special General Meeting will be called to introduce the members to the finally approved plans for the renovations and to get our members’ stamp of approval for the costs involved. This renovation is at least five years overdue, and the Board takes its collective hat off to all of the staff who have been working in very cramped, obsolete conditions for too long.
